Message of the HOD: Prof. Rafiqur Rahman

The Department of English, Barjora College with the Bengal Renaissance as its background has contributed significantly in the field of English Studies both in India and abroad. Therefore, the students of the department must be aware of the legacy they are entrusted with and try to do justice to the proud heritage of the department.

The Department of English provides specialized knowledge and training in British Literature, American Literature, New Literatures in English, Comparative Literatures, Linguistics, ELT and Indian English. It also seeks to develop, through teaching of language and literature, sensitivity to human and social values.

The students of the department are actively involved in all kinds of academic, co-academic and extra-curricular activities for their holistic development. We also have a good progression of students from the undergraduate to the post-graduate level and many of them have also found employment upon completion of the course.

The department seeks to ensure the progress and academic satisfaction of its students at all times. We are concerned most, however, with raising the awareness and social conscientiousness of all our students so they may achieve individual success while simultaneously helping in the process of social transformation and development.
