Barjora College (presently under Bankura University) was established in 1985 when virtually higher education was a long way off, especially to the economically backward classes of the Northern Bankura District. To cater the need of higher education a few distinguished education-lovers, dedicators and social reformers of the locality came to the forefront to realize the long-cherished dream to set up a College. After hard and unflinching struggle the distinguished personalities, also the common people of the area and a few members of the Mondal family provided land and fulfilled other necessary conditions for sanctioning the college. However, after Govt. approval this Institution was initially started in Barjora High School, later it was shifted to its own building in 1986 with a poor infrastructural facility. Gradually, it could find its own way of existence with increasing amenities in the open atmosphere of flora and fauna.

After a ‘ten years pass course run' considering the growing demand of the people for extension of greater facilities of higher education emerging from the changing socio-economic conditions in the rural Northern Bankura District The University of Burdwan and concurrently the State Govt. sanctioned English Honours first in 1995. Later, Bengali Honours, History Honours, Political Science Honours and Philosophy Honours courses were introduced. Geography and Sanskrit Honours have also come into existence in this college. In this year (2023) we got two new subjects Education & Sociology from Bankura University.

The NSS wing of the college also functions very well. At present the college also offers various computer science courses under the approval of Webel. Now this Institution is firm enough to uphold and continue the educational excellence of the students as well as to build the character and personality so that they transform into ideal citizens for the greater service of the country.

Barjora College pays homage to the long serving employees who have left this college or retired after service. We will always remain grateful to them for their valuable service.
